Spending Challenge

The Spending Challenge is an open invitation for public sector workers to contribute to the government’s Spending Review, helping to rethink public services to deliver more for less. It’s open initially to public sector workers between now and July 8th, when it will be opened to the wider public.
The Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister have committed that the government will look at every single idea that comes in. All the suggestions will be considered by a team of officials at the heart of government. The final Spending Review, which will set out detailed spending plans for all government departments, will be published on October 20th.

Survey of access to online information and information sharing within the NHS

The NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement has asked the Institute for Employment Studies (IES) to carry out research to find out whether people working in the NHS would be in favour of development of an online 'ideas channel' to facilitate the sharing of ideas and good practices. HealthCom’10 to take place in France

The twelth International Conference on e-Health networking, application and services, HealthCom ’10, will be held in Lyon, France at the beginning of July.
The conference aims to bring together clinicians, hospital administrators, IT professionals, researchers, healthcare system suppliers and consultants from across the world to collaborate, discuss health IT solutions and exchange ideas.
The conference, which will run from 1-3 July 2010, will provide a forum for discussions on e-Health projects supported by world bodies such as ITU, WHO and the EU, including FP6 and FP7 European projects. Click here for further information.

Experience Based Design workshop for NHS staff

The ebd approach (experience based design) is an exciting new way of bringing patients and staff together to share the role of improving care and re-designing services. It is being developed by the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement as a way of helping frontline NHS teams make the improvements their patients really want.
You have the opportunity to learn about the ebd approach through a one day workshop covering the essential aspects on 23 June from 9.30am until 3.30pm at the University of Warwick campus in Coventry. The event is open to NHS staff only. Click here for more details.

QIPP and Establishing the Evidence project

The QIPP collection on NHS Evidence brings together 70 examples of quality and productivity in one place to support widespread adoption and to help others deliver successful improvements without having to re-invent the wheel. NHS Evidence is now calling for new examples would like to encourage you to get involved.
There is a new form, together with a user guide setting out the level of detail required on productivity, quality, implementation and effectiveness. Email your submission by 18 June 2010.

The QIPP collection will be re-launched this summer.

Health Impact assessment training course

IMPACT, the International Health Assessment Consortium is running a training course from 14 - 18 June 2010 at the University of Liverpool. Join the team - NHS Evidence

NHS Evidence are currently looking for new members to join the NHS Evidence Advisory Committee to replace those whose terms have come to an end.
The Advisory Committee is central to the decision making process for the NHS Evidence Accreditation Scheme, which recognises high standards in the production of guidance. Processes which have reached the highest standards are awarded the NHS Evidence Accreditation Mark, which can be displayed on the relevant guidance as a quality standard.
Applications for committee members are welcomed from enthusiastic individuals with expertise in relevant areas of work such as research and methodology and who are potential users of NHS Evidence services such as clinicians, social care professionals and lay representatives.

Innovations Competition 2010

The Yorkshire & Humber NHS Innovation Awards & Showcase 2010 aims to identify individuals and teams working for the NHS whose ideas or inventions have directly led to or could lead to improvements in patient care and must be capable of being scaled up for wider implementation across the NHS.

The competition is open to all NHS staff in the Yorkshire and Humber region (individuals and teams) or anyone working with an NHS employee in this area.

IHI and JAMA Announce Author and Article for the October 21st Call

The Search is on for the Top Ten High Impact Actions for Nursing & Midwifery

A search is on for the Top Ten High Impact Actions for Nursing and Midwifery. NHS Live know that you are likely to be involved in innovative projects that improve the quality of care for patients and reduce costs. If you are a nurse or midwife, NHS Live want you to let your colleagues know about your improvement so that they can do it too! If you aren’t, but you know of some fantastic improvements being made by nursing and midwifery colleagues, please forward this on to them. This is joint initiative by the Department of Health, the Royal College of Midwives, the Royal College of Nursing, the Nursing and Midwifery Council and the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement. It is looking for changes that you have already made within your organisation that have improved quality for patients and reduced costs that, if replicated nationally, would have a huge impact on the quality and cost of patient care. There are currently vacancies on the Medical Technologies Advisory Committee – a new independent NICE Advisory Committee that will support the work of the Evaluation Pathway Programme for innovative medical technologies. Call for expressions of interest in participating in 4 national technology adoption pilots

This is an invitation to apply to participate in 4 national pilots to support the adoption of technology in the NHS. The 4 technologies include: Ambulance Information System, Echo Scanner for Liver Fibrosis using Elastography, Ioflupane I123 (DatSCAN for the diagnosis of dementia with Lewy Bodies), Midstream Urine Collection Device.
Participating NHS Trusts and PCTs have the opportunity to support the implementation of a clinically proven healthcare technology into their organisation and work with NTAC to assess the adoption and integration issues of the technology. At the end of each project a "How to why to Guide" will be produced to support, where appropriate the wider adoption of the technology across the NHS. Launch Date: 29 June 2009, Closing Date: 7 Sept 2009
