Speaker Presentations from NHS Centre for Involvement's Summer Conference 2009

The NHS Centre for Involvement's 2009 Summer Conference was held on 2nd July 2009 at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in London. The day conference highlighted the work of the Centre and led the debate on the future of Patient and Public Involvement in health and social care service design and delivery.
With a range of key speakers from health, social and voluntary sectors, the conference explored the current thinking on the state of involvement and what we need to do to drive forward the inclusion of involvement at all levels throughout the NHS and other heath and social care organisations. The keynote speaker at the conference was Joan Saddler, Director of Patient and Public Affairs at the Department of Health. Click here to view a copy of the presentations from the day

The NHS Centre for Involvement (NCI) Summer Conference - The Future of Involvement – putting patients at the heart of services.

Held on Thursday 2nd July at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre, Westminster, London, the conference will look at The Future of Involvement – Putting Patients at the heart of services. With a key note speech from Joan Saddler, Director of Patient and Public Affairs at The Department of Health, the conference will highlight key questions for policy-makers and practitioners around involvement and its implementation within health and social care services.
Delegates will also be invited to attend the presentation of The Involvement Awards 2009 – an awards scheme which celebrates innovation and imagination in PPI throughout the country.

NHS Centre for Involvement Summer Conference - 2nd July

The keynote address will be presented by Joan Saddler, Director of Patient and Public Affairs at the Department of Health who will be delivering a speech on Putting Patients at the heart of services – The Future of Involvement.
The programme also includes a range of key speakers from health, social and voluntary sectors, including Angela Coulter, formerly of The Picker Institute, Henry Tam, Head of Civil Renewal Unit, Department of Communities and Local Government and Dr Paul Hodgkin, Chief Executive of Patient Opinion. The conference will explore the current thinking on the state of involvement and what we need to do to drive forward the inclusion of involvement at all levels throughout the NHS and other heath and social care organisations. How to use Technologies to involve your patients

You are invited to learn, share and discover new technologies that can help you to involve and engage with your patients. The event is on 12th May 2009 from 10am to 3pm. It will be held at the NHS Institute, Coventry House, University of Warwick. An additonal event will be held in Newcastle on 20th May. The event is free to attend with lunch and refreshments provided on the day

Disabled Go - Involving Disabled People

DisabledGo produce extremely detailed, pan-disability access guides to NHS trust premises; making patient choice a reality for disabled people whilst improving the patient experience, reducing non-attends, and delivering a tangible method of meeting legislative requirements.
Using a research template developed with the ongoing input of over 850 steering groups of and for disabled people and an accumulated surveying experience of over 80,000 venues, DisabledGo currently works in partnership with over 65 local authorities, one in four universities, and NHS trusts throughout the UK.
The DisabledGo initiative allows NHS trusts to tap into this cumulative experience, enabling them to involve and engage with disabled people in the decision-making process at a local level.

Further Local Involvement Networks (LINKs) Guides available

The sixteenth and seventeenth Guides in the LINks Guide series are now available.
Guide 16 - ‘Community development’ is designed to help people involved with LINks understand how LINks can contribute to community development around health and well-being. The guide has been developed in collaboration with the NHS Alliance and the Community Development Foundation.
Guide 17 - ‘LINks and Overview and Scrutiny Committees working together’ aims to clarify the
roles of Overview and Scrutiny Committees (OSCs) and Local Involvement LINks within the
framework for patient, service user and public engagement in health and social care and to
provide advice for OSCs and LINks that develops their understanding of their respective and
distinct roles, suggesting ways of joint working as a means of maximising their contribution to
public accountability of health and social care.

Help Build a better Health & Social Care Service - Local Involvement Networks Explained

Local Involvement Networks (LINks) have been introduced to help strengthen the system that enables communities to influence local health and care services.
Backed up by certain powers, LINks aim to, provide everyone in the community - from individuals to voluntary groups, with the chance to say what they think about local health and social care services. Give people the chance to influence how services are planned and run.

Seminal Report Offers Roadmap for Patient and Family Partnership in Care

Making health care delivery patient- and family-centered is a bedrock principle of quality improvement. IHI presents a seminal report on this subject that evolved from a unique convening of more than 70 experts, led by the Institute for Family-Centered Care (IFCC) and IHI. The report is filled with examples from the field and key recommendations for all stakeholders: hospitals, payers, foundations, corporations, government agencies, groups of people with specific chronic illnesses, and others.
