The NHS Technology Adoption Centre (NTAC) invites NHS Trusts / PCTs to apply to host 'Technology Implementation Projects'

These projects involve Trusts working with NTAC to implement innovative but proven healthcare technologies into their organisations. The centre has selected four projects to begin in host trusts in autumn 2009 / winter 2010. Grants will be available to participating Trusts and PCTs.
The NHS Technology Adoption Centre has selected 4 technologies to be the basis of 4 Technology Implementation Projects. These include:
· Ambulance Information System
· Echo Scanner for Liver Fibrosis using Elastography
· Ioflupane I123 (DatSCAN for Dementia with Lewy Bodies)
· Midstream Urine Collection Device

Participating NHS Trusts and PCTs have the opportunity to support the implementation of a clinically proven healthcare technology into their organisation and work with NTAC to assess the adoption and integration issues of the technology. At the end of each project a "How to why to Guide"will be produced to support, where appropriate the wider adoption of the technology across the NHS. Closing Date: 7 Sept 2009

Discussion: ‘Homeless health care: a blight on this house’ - 21st April 2009 House of Commons

Shocking research by the homeless charity St. Mungo’s has shown that around 80 per cent of those living rough have at least one health problem; and a third of those with a health problem are receiving no treatment at all. On average, clients in St. Mungo’s hostels are just 41 years old when they die.
Innovative projects are emerging, and in some cases have existed for some time, to take the lead in providing specialist services for the homeless. However, as they build momentum, they are surfacing an enormous number of issues that haven’t been addressed and remain a miscarriage of health within a health system that prides itself on being universal.
What is the future for such worthy initiatives? Can a coherent, holistic, strategy be developed to provide healthcare for the homeless? What are the obstacles to such coordinated action? Are there opportunities for self-help? And what needs to change to enable this to happen?
This discussion 'Homeless Health Care: a Blight on this House' is being chaired by Professor Aidan Halligan with, Sir David Varney, Prime Minister’s Advisor on Public Service Transformation, Dr Jim O’Connell, Boston Healthcare for the Homeless Programme (USA), Dr Philip Reid, Great Chapel Centre, Soho, Charles Fraser, CEO, St. Mungo’s and will be hosted by Hilary Armstrong, MP. It will take place on Tuesday 21 April, 6.30-8.30pm at the House of Commons in the Grand Committee Room (please use St. Stephen’s entrance). There is space for an audience of around 100 people, drawn from senior health professionals (all sectors), regulators, the medical institutions, Department of Health, journalists, policy-makers and academics.
If you wish to attend please email James Gubb or phone: 020 7799 6677.

Do you know any good technologies for the NHS?

The NHS Technology Adoption Centre (NTAC) has launched its second Call for Proposals for Technology Implementation Projects. NTAC would like to receive applications from healthcare clinicians and medical technology companies concerning technologies that might be suitable for 4 Projects to begin in Autumn 2009.
These Projects will involve approved technologies being implemented in real-time NHS clinical settings to see the range of issues associated with adopting and using the technologies. These Projects will also identify where additional changes to a clinical pathway or service may need to be made to unlock the full benefit of the technologies. Where technology adoption is successful, online technology adoption guides ("How to, Why to Guides") will be disseminated widely across the NHS to stimulate uptake. The deadline for electronic applications is 5 pm, 2 March 2009. Click here for further information.
