At the end of last year the NHS Institute invited expressions of interest to participate in a national orthopaedic rapid improvement programme to improve the quality and productivity of care for patients undergoing hip and knee replacements or with fractured neck of femur. As there was considerable interest in participating in the programme we have asked the NHS Institute to run a similar programme for all commissioners and providers in NHS Yorkshire and the Humber.
The rapid improvement programme will support local health communities in eliminating unnecessary waits for orthopaedic pathways and improve the quality and value of orthopaedic services. An initial workshop will take place on 18th September with a half day follow up workshop in December (date to be confirmed).
The initial workshop will challenge whole health communities to develop and deliver joint action plans aimed at rapid transformation of their orthopaedic services and will be informed by local and national evidence of good practice and the experiences of the three NHS Yorkshire and Humber Pilot sites
The event will be of interest to clinicians, managers, commissioners and improvement leads from both PCT and provider organisations. PCTs are encouraged to invite colleagues from independent sector organisations too.
