The Care Quality Commission has now launched in shadow form as the new health and social care regulator.
It will bring together the Commission for Social Care Inspection, the Healthcare Commission and the Mental Health Act Commission. The Care Quality Commission becomes a legal entity in October 2008 and takes up its responsibilities for the quality of health and social care in April 2009.
