Examples from the Productive Ward

Patients at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (LTHT) are benefiting from an obvious and demonstrable improvement in care as a result of ward teams’ implementation of a structured and targeted improvement programme. The work focuses on improving processes and environments by changing behaviour and culture to help nurses and therapists spend more time on patient care thereby improving safety and efficiency. The work uses a combination of lean methodology developed in manufacturing, and social marketing which uses marketing principles to influence behaviour change and have a long term impact on organisational culture. See some real examples of this work from LTHT here. These slides were first presented at the January session of the Service Redesign Network, find out more about the network here.
