OncoAlert Launched

The NHS Institute has launched OncoAlert, a toolkit to help cancer professionals work with other hospital teams to streamline the pathway for patients who enter hospital via the emergency route.
Packaged as a CD-ROM with a variety of tools and templates that teams can use to make pathway improvements, OncoAlert was developed following an investigation into the pathway for sick patients with suspected cancer.

Cervical Screening Age: Experts to Review Evidence

A panel of experts is to carry out an evidence review to determine whether women under the age of 25 should be routinely screened for cervical cancer, Health Minister Ann Keen has announced. Cervical screening currently starts at age 25 years in England, in line with World Health Organisation recommendations and the advice of leading experts in this country including the independent Advisory Committee on Cervical Screening (ACCS). Mouth Cancer Action Week

This year’s Mouth Cancer Action Week will run from November 16 -22. Mouth cancer kills one person every five hours in the UK.
This year’s campaign is using the tagline ‘If in doubt, get checked out’ to raise awareness of the importance of early detection. Treated in its early stages mouth cancer is curable but left later it kills around one in two. Live Online Lecture on Dysphagia and Nutritional Intake - Friday 31st October

On Friday 31st October at 2pm Cancer Nursing. Org, will be presenting a live lecture on 'Dysphagia and Nutritional Intake'.

This presentation will explore dysphagia and how to address the eating and nutritional intake difficulties encountered by sufferers. In particular there will be a special focus on the utilisation of food and fluid thickeners, and how to present meals for improved intake.

NHS Improvement Portal for Cancer, Cardiac, Diagnostics and Stroke Services

NHS Improvement is a newly formed national improvement programme working with clinical networks and NHS organisations to transform, deliver and sustain improvements across the entire pathway of care in cancer, cardiac, diagnostics and stroke services. This new national improvement initiative aims to build on their inimitable knowledge and experience and continue to pilot, test and support practical implementation of service redesign methods. Through the continuous development and support of clinical networks and individual pilot sites, NHS Improvement demonstrates a "how to" approach to achieve sustainable effective pathways and systems to improve the efficiency and quality of NHS services. First CancerNursing.org live online lecture: 'Cancer and Palliative Care Competencies'

On 10th June at 10am BST CancerNursing.org will be delivering a free ONLINE lecture for nurses. This will be the first in a series of lectures on cancer and palliative nursing topics. The title of the lecture is 'Cancer and Palliative Care Competencies: Empowering or Constraining?'. It will explore the development of competencies in the context of cancer and palliative care and will provide a critical overview of how they fit in to clinical practise and can be used to good effect to help develop knowledge and skills and to plan professional development activities. The lecture will be recorded and a downloadable version will be available on the CancerNursing.org website. Access the presentation here (recorded version did not work this time).
