Commissioning for Sustainable Development is a how to guide for commissioners.
It provides guidance on how to commission sustainably and should be used in conjunction with Healthy Futures 9, Commissioning for Sustainable Development,1 published by the Sustainable Development Commission (SDC).
The SDC report considers what sustainable commissioning is and its role as an integral part of NHS core business, whereas this document details how to commission sustainably.

Commissioners and LINks: Effectively Engaging Communities for the 2011/12

This is a half day workshop on 16 June for NHS and social care commissioners within the Yorkshire & Humber region, aimed at providing:

Personal Learning for Commissioning: a new resource from PCC

NHS Primary Care Commissioning (PCC) has introduced a new resource to help subscribers develop the expertise needed to support organisational commissioning competencies. Personal Learning for Commissioning (PL4C) provides links to commissioning resources and advice on the skills and knowledge required to bring individuals up to the mark in a range of commissioning disciplines. PL4C also includes tools to help commissioners plan and track their professional development.

Commissioning children's services network is the latest to join NHS Networks

The Commissioning Children's Services Network is the latest addition to NHS Networks, the virtual platform for connecting professionals and stakeholders in healthcare. The stated aim of the network is to "develop and spread expertise around commissioning children and young people's services". It is the latest of around 20 networks directly related to commissioning to have formed on the NHS Networks platform, which also hosts the World Class Commissioning support and development network and PBC Connection the "network of networks" for PCT and practice based commissioners. NHS Networks provides free web space, network management tools and support for collaboration and intelligence sharing. The service was re-launched in February, supports over 600 networks and is adding new networks at the rate of one a day.

Health Impact assessment training course

The commissioning specialist collection (CSC), part of NHS Evidence and managed by The King’s Fund, is an information resource for all those involved in commissioning for health and wellbeing. It endeavours to include the best available evidence, examples of good practice, policy and data to support world class commissioning and is managed by a dedicated information specialist who is contactable via email should you have any feedback, suggestions or queries.

Highlights of the collection include the regularly updated key topics which provide brief summaries and links to information on various commissioning topics, and the CSC is always happy to consider suggestions for new topics. National Dementia Strategy Commissioning Conference

The DH National Dementia Strategy Implementation Team is hosting a commissioning conference on October 6 2009 in Central London.

Primary care commissioning for offenders

This event being held in London on 28 October will examine the challenges for improving health care for offenders in the prison and community care environment. There are currently vacancies on the Medical Technologies Advisory Committee – a new independent NICE Advisory Committee that will support the work of the Evaluation Pathway Programme for innovative medical technologies.
